Position Summary 

The role of the Senior Cloud Engineer is to streamline the process of delivering valuable product and technical improvements into production. They create more stable operating environments by continuously improving the infrastructure to be easily deployable and scalable. They support and possibly lead various maintenance and innovation-based projects. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Deployments. 45%. Assist product team to release changes through dev, testing, and production environments. 
  • Operations. 15%. Respond to urgent operational and security issues. Implement and maintain monitoring solutions. 
  • CICD. 10%. Architect and implement the following best practices and ongoing improvements for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. 
  • Automation. 10%. Automate everything! Identify and replace manual processes with scripts and jobs for automatic execution. 
  • Security. 10%. Identify, inventory, and remediate security vulnerabilities. 
  • Tasks and Documentation. 10%. Keep task status updated. Document work and ideas. Support the team’s on-call rotation. 

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Minimum two years experience in cloud-based environments plus an additional two years of combined physical/virtual server management, networking management, development experience, and at least one certification, preferably in cloud services.
  • Career level position within the field, considered highly skilled and proficient within the discipline. 
  • Advanced understanding of cloud platform landscape and advantages/disadvantages of competing tools. 
  •  Advanced knowledge of agile methodology, development processes, and multiple programming languages.
  • Conducts complex work important to the organization. 
  • Leads root cause analysis methodologies, remediation, and prevention. 
  •  Assigned to one or more Product Teams where they automate software deployment processes by releasing incremental updates and developing automation tools.
  • Improve communication and collaboration to enable rapid product development by serving as the liaison between the development and operations teams. 
  • Increase application/system responsiveness and monitor application/system performance by anticipating and correcting operational issues before their occurrence. 
  • Works under little supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. 
  • Strong administration knowledge of Linux.
  • Experience scripting in Python and Bash. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of AWS core technologies and tools. 
  • Understanding of DevOps, Scrum, and ITIL concepts. 
  • Understanding of Virtualization and/or Containerization. 
  •  Experience using monitoring tools like New Relic and CloudWatch. 
  • Strong communication and documentation skills. 
  • Self-starter with a drive to work autonomously as a member of a collaborative team. 
  • Strong service-oriented focus with a customer service attitude. 
  •  Strong analytical skills. 
  •  Expected to assist less experienced peers. 


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Comprehensive understanding of AWS core technologies and tools. 
  • 2+ years of experience working with AWS. 
  • 5+ years of practical experience in information technology. 
  • 3+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator/Engineer – Linux based certifications are plus. 
  • 3+ years of experience interfacing with development and/or operational teams. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology-related field or equivalent professional experience.
